In looking back at my blog posts of last year I noticed that there was a distinct lack of images and posts on the Alhambra in Granada. To have posted so few images of this wondrous place seemed to be a criminal act in itself, so let me make amends, starting with the Alcazaba.

This is the oldest part of the Alhambra complex and its thick walls provided a formidable defence against would be attackers.
Within these walls one can get to the highest part of the complex, the Torre de la Vela.

From this tower one can gain views not only over the city of Granada, but also back over the Alhambra complex and beyond to the rolling hills and the mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada.

The Alcazaba is just one part of the Alhambra complex, representing the most fortress like element. In another post I will move on to the Palacios Nazaries, a somewhat contrasting area.
Hope you are enjoying the tour…..
I love looking at these photos. We spent a week in Granada last year, staying in a cave (not as bad as it sounds) and looking over at the Alhambra every day. Your photos bring it to life in my mind again.

We stayed down by Motril near the coast in an Italian style estate (not as grand as it sounds) and had just the one day ion Granada. Needless to say it was spent almost exclusively in the Alhambra complex. Mind blowing. Glad I could bring back some good memories for you. MM π

It all lives up to the hype, doesn’t it? It was a cool April day when we were there but the memory of sitting beneath the cherry blossom, looking up at the Alcazaba and being serenaded, will never fade. π

It really is so worth it and a must see. We spent pretty much the whole day in the complex. Magnificent π

Lovely pictures – we went a few years ago but we didn’t do it nearly as thoroughly so it’s great to see this.

We went straight to the Ahambra having already secured tickets, knowing that it was a full day to take it in properly….

Fab place. On my trip I entered the palace just as my camera battery died π΅

More important to experience it than click it, infuriating though it must have been…..π
