At the end of the Beara peninsula lies a cable car. The cable car stretches from the mainland to the Island of Dursey across a narrow strait. While the cable car will carry many a tourist in the summer months it acts as a lifeline for the few islanders left. However, it’s not just people that use the cabin, with sheep and cattle being transported to and from the Island. The last time I took the cable car I had to share the confined space with a couple of sheep dogs and several bags of cement mix.
The photograph shows a view from Dursey looking back down the Island to the mainland, highlighting a small number of patchwork fields where farmers eked out a living.

Sheep on a cable car. I can barely cope with them as it is without sheep running around (nothing against the sheep themselves, it’s the running around).
Cement would be alright.
