The Batalha Monastery in central Portugal is well worth a visit if you happen to be in Portugal, the photograph above giving a glimpse of what to expect. It is a truly impressive building and dates back to the fourteenth century when construction started. Now I am not a big museum or religious fan but this I was impressed with; I particularly liked the unfinished chapel reaching for the heavens.
There’s lots else in the area too such as Alcobaca, Fatima and a great safe seaside spot of San Martinho do Porto. I went to Batalha for a wedding and stayed at a family hotel belonging to relations of the bride. I may be bias but can definitely recommend their hotel.
Just beautiful!

Hey, I know that place! ๐
Did someone tell you the story of the architect that stood inside a cloister to prove to everyone that it wouldn’t fall apart?

Lovely shot, MM.
The shadows on the ground really add to the composition of this one.

Thank you and for me your observation is spot on – without the shadows the picture would never have worked as well and I might not even have taken the picture. ๐๐ท
