This week’s Photo Challenge is ‘orange’, that bright, vivacious, attention seeking colour. To see more of the challenge just check this link out – Weekly photo challenge.Β
The trouble is I am a much more subtle individual and orange is typically the colour of things that I avoid, they generally prove an unwelcome distraction – motorway cones and belisha beacons spring to mind.
So without searching through the archives – I know I have some Monbretia which is sufficiently orange somewhere – I picked up the oranges that were ready for juicing and gave them a stay of execution. Photo challenge solved.
Let me know what you think and which works best…
Hope this has brightened up your day. Now off to finish my latest Harry Hole mystery, just building to the climax.
Juicy! Especially like the play of light & shadows in the Orange Line Up, John.

I love the fact that you’ve photographed just oranges but shown us the many ways of composing a still life, use of light, shadow and reflections π

I had great fun waving my arms around with a standard lamp to see the ways the shadows would fall. There’s plenty more on the cutting room floor. I also did some images with an orange card background – aim to put these out on Friday. (have to admit the reflections was a cheat and I used photoshop to obtain that – but why not, all tools at our disposal). Cheers Sarah, MM π

Well, I had no idea it was photoshop!! I wholeheartedly agree about using the tools you have, especially when you can do it that well π I’ll be really interested to see how they look against the orange background!

I like the first and last shots best as I prefer the more natural composition of the oranges. I think I like the first shot best as the lighting in that one seems to pick out the texture of the oranges more. And I’m a sucker for reflections. But I’m undecided.

I have to agree on the more natural arrangements and I am glad I now added in that reflection. Glad it worked for you, MM π

I like the oranges piled up in a pyramid, simply because that is what I would do. Very nice pictures.

Thank you Ben, just had to be done – with this I was interested in how the light would work in the spaces between the images. Needless to say there was plenty of waving the lamp around to see the different effects caused. Thanks for commenting, MM π

Besides the fact that orange is MY favourite colour, you’ve turned a humble fruit into a work of art. Now which one? Hmmm… the colour is deepest and richest in your pyramid so for me, the best! Yet…

Well apart from being insanely envious of your stacking skills John, my preference is for the first shot because of the beautiful reflections. But I do like the second one too and . . . . . .

Thank you Lee, the first one I played around in photoshop to get the reflections which I wanted to be very subtle. Glad you noticed then and liked them too. Enjoy the day, MM π
