Marlogue Mayhem

Going for the first time to Marlogue Wood on Great Island near Cobh, a walk with the dog turned into a bit of a steeplechase. Trees were everywhere, with many lying horizontal and across the path, evidence of the recent February storms.

It almost seemed like a battlefield with stricken heroes lying wounded and dying where they fell. Hopefully the following images give some indication of the power of nature. Makes you feel small doesn’t it?

So if you go to Marlogue Wood be prepared for some high jumps.

  1. It doesn’t look pretty to our eyes, but there are some seedlings just waiting to jump into the light space freed up by the fallen veterans. The forest has a way of filling in and reclaiming itself…
