Airborne

Swans are heavy birds, adult mute swans weigh around 10kg so it takes some energy to get airborne. Well here are some colour photos of these swans as they circle a bog in North Cork.

Well that will be it from the swans for the moment but hopefully we will be back to find plenty of industry and nest building.

  1. I live along one of the North American migratory paths. Each year we get to see massive flocks of geese (same family and subfamily as swans) pass overheard (at amazing altitudes) and hear their inviting honking. Seems you have a great viewing area, too. Enjoyed these “up close” shots, MM.

  2. There are several pairs at one of our local golf courses – they can be quite alarming coming in at shoulder height for splash-landing on the lake. I always think them the avian equivalent of the Vulcan bomber πŸ™‚
