Swans are heavy birds, adult mute swans weigh around 10kg so it takes some energy to get airborne. Well here are some colour photos of these swans as they circle a bog in North Cork.
Well that will be it from the swans for the moment but hopefully we will be back to find plenty of industry and nest building.
Beautiful. Now that I think of it… I don’t think I have ever seen swans in nature. Swans in the ballet in Prague, yes. But these seem lovelier.

Thanks Aussa, we seem to be on a bit of a migration route and its always good to see them pass by, completing their own journeys. π

I live along one of the North American migratory paths. Each year we get to see massive flocks of geese (same family and subfamily as swans) pass overheard (at amazing altitudes) and hear their inviting honking. Seems you have a great viewing area, too. Enjoyed these “up close” shots, MM.

Wonderful! I was just sitting watching a family of seven sawns the other day. 2 adults and 5 offspring. I got a few photos but yours are better π

There are several pairs at one of our local golf courses – they can be quite alarming coming in at shoulder height for splash-landing on the lake. I always think them the avian equivalent of the Vulcan bomber π
Another interesting set of images MM
