The green off these young ferns was almost fluorescent, almost too much for the eyes when lit by sunlight. From the moment they start to form as tight coils until the point they are brown and ready to dissolve back into the earth, these plants are a wonderful addition to the landscape. Imagine a woodland without them.

I’ve never seen the fronds in rows like in your photo, although I’ve taken lots of fern photos before.
I love that stage when the new shoots start to unfurl too.
