About Me

This blog was started on 13th May 2013 in order to explore some of my more creative skills that were just waiting to leap out. The format would hopefully provide constructive feedback, positive and negative.

The blog predominantly features photography and, to a lesser extent, writing. Photographs on this site are available for purchase in a high definition format and I would ask that you use the contact form on my Copyright Page for enquiries.

I am based in Cork and love to travel within Ireland and further afield. Being based in Europe I am privileged to able to take a 2-3 hour flight and explore different cultures, tastes, architecture and landscapes. However, if we stop to look all around us, there is plenty of beauty to see in everyday life. I would hope that this blog can underline this through both images and the written word.

With holidays I like to find hidden gems and prefer to take this route and get it wrong on occasions than to ‘play safe’. Once we stayed in an old farmhouse where the walls were so thick it could have been a fortress and the lady running it (who spoke no English) apologised as while all the jams, honey, butter, cured ham etc at breakfast were homemade, the cheese was not – it came from the farm down the road (or perhaps I should say track).

So that’s me in a rather large nutshell (think coconut), plenty going on and all rather exciting. I will endeavour to respond to all comments and thank all those that deem my blog worthy of a follow.

  1. Thank you for sharing. You have a wonderful display. I always find it fascinating to look at photos and wonder what the photographer was thinking when he snapped it. I will be visiting Ireland in July with a camera in hand hoping to capture just a sliver of the beauty you have captured in your photos.

Just remember, the weather can change in the blink of an eye and that changing light can be so rewarding 😎 So many times when taking images, something just captures my attention. I can’t always tell why, but I know I just love it. If others do too then that’s great. 😀

Hopefully there is a wee bit of humour in the site too, but above all I feel under no pressure to put what people want to see, but to put out what appeals to me.   5. I loved your pictures… I haven’t explored your blog, but looking at beautiful pictures clicked by you I’m pressing like button!

    By the way, you are based in Ireland but you say you’ll be interested in opportunities in Munster, Germany…you love Germany especially Munster?

    1. Hi there Arv, I’ll pop over and check your own work in minute but thanks for all the likes and, in particular, your comments.

      While Munster is the name given to a German province, it is also the name given to one of the four provinces of Ireland. In Ireland, Munster covers the counties of Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick and Clare. Can cause a bit of confusion. 😕🍀

      1. Thanks Mick… It’s a news to me about Munster in Ireland..
        I hope to travel to Ireland someday. To me Ireland brings in images of overcast sky and great cliffs! I don’t know why I have this image in my mind… is it misplaced?

      2. No the Cliffs of Moher are well known as is the wet weather which makes everything so green. Guinness, the pubs, live music, horse racing, the catholic church, 50 shades of green, …..that roughly completes it…..🍀

  6. Oh I can resonate to you I am 49 12-122015—-my body feels the old but my mind refuses to get old. Thank you for stopping over at my blog. I use to do security now got a degree and cannot find a job so of course I went back to cutting hair at a Great Clips, 8.25 an hour…if only the people realize this maybe they would give a TIP more often. My monthly income with a 21 year old is 1000.00 a month if that, ugh….I might have to blog about it as I have been not given promotions and advances fo political reasons and had to quit Security. I don’t like that another girl that has no high school diploma who started AFTER me got a raise and promotion and Not me…I quit, moved on and pray to do book reviews for authors and get paid one day little by little.   13. Hi John so you are a Cork man my Dad was a Dubliner my Mum from Oxford their union caused some constanation, she a Church of England rich girl he a penniless Irish Catholic! In the late 19 20’s early 1930’s.
    Anyway they worked and had a large family me the last.
    Good for you see a new road and taking it, as you say rather the road less traveled with all the treasures you can encounter than to plod on on the safe option ever wondering .. what if.

      1. You so amaze me, I had no internet for awhile, but hope to afford to keep this newer one. Trying to find a job with a BA degree is not easy in IL. Your photo’s always inspire me and reading all of the nice comments. / Jackie

  17. Beautiful shots John. Lots of hard work on getting your new venture up and running. Now, for some really stunning scenery, get yourself and your camera up to North Antrim’s outstanding coastline! You might have done that already, but that place loves the lens!

    1. Well am a lot happier and yet to really eat into my redundancy stash and most importantly happy out. Just about to launch a partnership and loving work. Perhaps I had been walking dead for too long and some life-events shook me up to see the truth of it all.
