Cascais

Cascais lies at the end of La Linha, a railway line hugging the estuary and coast as the grand Tejo River enters the Atlantic ocean. It is thus an easy train ride out from Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.

Once a sleepy fishing village, it is now a popular spot for holiday makers, sunbathers and those just wishing to take a stroll along the promenade all the way to Estoril. Plenty of places to grab a coffee, a bite to eat or something stronger.  Its not just a place that is alive in the daytime either.

As with many places in Portugal, the pavements and pedestrian areas are set out in wonderful mosaic patterns. I just love them.

And if you are looking for something a bit more wild with quality surf and a rugged background there is always Praia do Guincho just around the corner. If  venture there, I have to recommend a trip to the far end of the beach and Bar do Guincho.
