One Four Challenge

So here it is, week 4 of the One Four Challenge. For this I have tried blending two images together by introducing a texture to my original image:

Image of trees with a leaf embossed
Trees and Leaves

This is the first time that I have tried to do this and found that by erasing some of the texture to create more of a leaf shape and fully reveal part of the underlying image, it worked a little bit better. Not fully taken by it, although I like the subtlety of it all. Would welcome your own thoughts.

Here are all the images in one montage, including the original version straight out of camera and a bonus version that I did using the radial filter in Lightroom. Below the montage I have included a poll where I would really appreciate your votes to let me know which one you liked the best.

Thank you so much to Robyn G for organising a great challenge. The next one starts in December, so why not chime in.

  1. Well done on the experimentation in week 4. Gives me ideas for the next challenge! But I think the leaf gets a little lost in the background trees which makes it hard to distinguish it as a leaf. Good concept though. My vote is for The Fallen, both because of the beautiful image and the thought attached to it.

  3. John I love your intention here and the experiment.
I enjoy blending layers – you never know what can happen 😀
    Do keep trying this!!
Gosh choosing was very hard and it was only when clicking in to view the images that I decided on Spotlight. I thought I was drawn to Forest Floor, but got caught in the Spotlight instead 😜

  4. First I would like to encourage your way of experimenting with different software and thus creating a new look. Personally your image in week four needs a bit more work..I would crop it the all the way to the two trees and apply a chrome and a transfer effect..in doing so..you blend them better and colours will have more potency and the structure of the leaf will blend nicely with the trees..creating an abstract look yet very recognisable through its leaf subtle structure ..(that’s just how I see it..😊
However, out of all of them, my favourite is Fallen !

    1. Thank you so much for the suggestion Diana. I am rather new to all this playing around so there is a bit of fumbling in the dark going on. I agree the image needs more work, but ran out of time and inspiration. Will look into it further when I can…….Hope your weekend was good, MM 🍀

  5. Perhaps this is a concept to play with some more in the next challenge? I think you already had so much texture in the original image that introducing new would be hard! Did you try different blending options? I voted for Fallen as the concept was just so beautiful, but as a fine art print I think Forest Floor is just wonderful in it’s richness 🙂

    1. Thank you so much. I had no idea where I would go at the start of it all and wondered whether I had chosen too restrictive an image. But I think we got there ok. Thanks for all comments along the way, MM 🍀

  6. I think the background image needed to be bigger to fill up the top image for it to really work, but way to go on the concept! Everyone has come up with such interesting variations for their last image 🙂

    1. I think by the time you get to version 4c you feel as if you have to really try something different and get out of one’s comfort zone. Clearly some things are going to work while others will be close to disasters, but the learning is immense and worthwhile. Once more Lens Addiction, thank you for all of your time, great to get honest feedback. MM 🍀
