To get to the Glenelg Ferry, one has to climb the Mam Ratagan Pass at the head of Loch Duich before reaching one of Scotland’s most recognisable castles – Eilean Donan Castle. This pass provides glorious views over Loch Duich and the surrounding mountains – I just wish I could have had my recently acquired wide angle lens back then. An excuse to go back.
Robin of Northumbrian Light fame, this is for you! Hope this makes your mouth water in anticipation of your trip.
Of course if you are heading to the Skye ferry at Glenelg, make sure you go to the castle at some point. Conversely, if you have no interest in going to Glenelg, head up to the Mam Ratagan Pass anyway (take the road at Shiel Bridge at the head of Loch Duich) to take in the views before returning to the main road.
I am so glad to stumble upon your blog this morning. The pictures are superb!!
I am looking forward to see and read more from you.
xx

Thank you there, very thoughtful. I am glad to say I have been there many times as a child and stopped there on our honeymoon on the way to Applecross. To me it is the archetypal Scottish Castle. MM 🍀

Thank you Anarette. Around every bend in this area is another mouth-watering scene. Just need the weather and the absence of midges. MM 🍀
